Board votes to seek Glendale principal applicants
Eunice High principal post not yet under consideration
The St. Landry Parish School Board on Thursday accepted the retirement notice of Glendale Elementary Principal Phyllis Ortego and voted to advertise for applicants to succeed her.
There was no discussion of what seems to be the pending departure of Eunice High Principal Margaret Leger.
According to a number of sources, she has applied for a supervisory position in Acadia Parish, an application which is scheduled to be acted upon at that School Board's meeting on Monday night.
Ortego has been on leave from Glendale since January 2008.
Leger has been principal at Eunice High since 2002. She succeded John Bourque, who is superintendent of schools in Acadia.
When an administative opening occurs in the parish, the board advertises for applicants, then turns them over to a committee established by federal district court.
That committee is comprised of two white and two African American members. Members interview the candidates and recommend one to Supt. Michael Nassif.
