There may be a few future Lady Bengals participating in this week’s camp at LSU Eunice.
“We want to help the kids get better in basketball and give them a chance to play,” head basketball coach Michael Bari said.
“We also want to get kids on campus and let them see what LSUE has to offer as these are our future students.”
Football and baseball are very successful sports in the area, Bari pointed out, but he felt basketball will become more popular and more kids will want to play.
Bari said it is great to see his players interact with the younger athletes as they teach the drills and work at the camp.
“We teach the fundamentals of the game, which is very important,” the coach said.
“We had a skills camp a couple of weeks ago with eighth-,ninth- and tenth-graders in here and they were fun to work with.
“This week we have such a wide range of ages it is tough to do group activities, but we do a lot of small group activities.”
LSUE will also hold two more camps next month.
The advanced fundamentals camp will be held July 7-9 for boys and July 21-23 for girls.
“I think we will do more shooting and develop more skills,” Bari said of the next camps.
