Children's Chicken Chase
The Children’s Mardi Gras run made its first stop at Bobcat Drive at the soccer fields for its first Chicken Chase Sunday. Trophies were awarded for each age group: 0 to 4, 5 to 7, 8 to 9 and 10 to 12. Despite the muddy fields some 400 children chased chickens.

Children's Mardi Gras Registration
The Eunice Recreational Complex was packed Sunday for the Lil’ Mardi Gras Children’s run.
Registration began at 7:30 a..m. and continued until just before 9 a.m.
The children’s run includes participating in chicken chases at the Soccer Fields (Bobcat Drive), Oak Lane Wellness and Glendale Elementary. Other activities for the children include a lunch stop at the Recreational Complex with a chicken chase on site. The last chase will take place at the Harris Park on Leon Street.

EHS Renaissance Pep Rally
Eunice High School held its annual Renaissance Pep Rally Friday, Feb. 26. The theme of the academic event was "A 'Cat'Emy' Awards." Many academic awards, recognitions, dancing and entertainment filled the crowded school's gymnasium.

Eunice Head Start Mardi Gras parade
Despite the cold and rainy conditions outside Thursday morning, Eunice Head Start children lined up for their annual Mardi Gras parade. Some were masked, others played instruments, and others wore beads, the three-year-olds did not let a little bit of dreary weather stop them from parading around on the sidewalks of the school.

March For Life
Participants in the Right to Life March on Friday hold posters supporting their pro-life sentiments. The march marked the 37th anniversary, Jan. 22, 1973, of the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion. The walk began at Picou’s on North Second Street and ended at City Hall where local ministers led a large group in prayer.

Central Middle School held Open House Tuesday evening for sixth-graders and parents. Report cards were given to parents in their child’s homeroom. Open House for fifth-graders will be held Wednesday evening. Principal Wendell Prudhomme welcomed parents to visit classrooms, teachers, and get their child’s report card. Door prizes were given.

First time students at Louisiana State University Eunice go through Orientation Thursday, Jan. 7. The orientation process involves Math Replacement testing, (if applicable), Admissions-checking in records and schedule, Bengal Ids taken, and each student receives a free LSUE T-shirt. Students also had the opportunity to check-in at Financial Aid office.

The Train Man
Clickety, clack, clickety clack, the trains are back.
Joe’s Train Room has been a Welsh tradition for 17 years. Train Joe (local businessman Joe vanNess) opens the doors to his railroad paradise on the Friday after Thanksgiving. This year it will stay open through Sat., Dec. 26. Hours are 6 - 9 p.m.
The address, fittingly enough, is 208 West Railroad Avenue in Welsh, right by the railroad track, just off North Adams Street, which is the street one enters, going into Welsh from I-10.

Blue Cross/Blue Shield Angel Award presentation
Representatives from Blue Cross/Blue Shield were onhand Monday, Nov. 30, to present Jean McManus, the first Angel Award recipient in St. Landry Parish, with a $20,000 grant towards the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program in Eunice, which McManus founded three years ago, and now provides free books to over 900 children under the age of 5 in Eunice.

Eunice High's Water balloon party
More than 200 Eunice High honor roll students made their best throw EHS football stadium on Wednesday.
Principal Mitch Fontenot challenged students to make honor roll.
The last six weeks grading period 161 students made Honor Roll. He challenged students to reach the 200 honor roll mark for the second six weeks.
His reward was an opportunity to throw water balloons at the teacher of their choice. And 210 students made honor roll.
Fontenot is making plans for the end of next six weeks, striving for 225. The students’ reward will be a dunking booth where they will have a chance to ‘dunk’ the teacher of their choice.There are 11 images in this gallery

Snowy morning
A light snowfall doused Eunice shortly after sundown Friday, Dec. 4. Saturday sunshine quickly began the melting process, but it was fun while it lasted.

Eunice Food Bank Food Drive
Eunice Food Bank's annual Food Drive is underway today until 7 p.m. Food items, canned goods, paper goods, monetary donations are being accepted at the Northwest Center. Volunteers are in the front of the center available to help unload vehicles.

Jindal presents medals to Louisiana veterans
Governor Bobby Jindal handed out over 200 medals to St. Landry Parish veterans and their families during a ceremony Thursday at the South Park Civic Center in Opelousas.

Senior Citizens Annual Christmas Dinner
City of Eunice hosted its annual Seniors Christmas Dinner Wed., Dec. 16 at the Southeast Center. Many seniors played bingo and dined together for a Christmas meal which included baked turkey with all the trimmings.

Snow Day!!!
A snow day doesn't come along very often in this part of the world, but kids out of school because of it know what to do -- put on the coats and head out the door.
The first appreciable snowfall in Eunice since 1988 coated the city and surrounding area with a wintry look beginning before daylight.
At mid-morning warming temperatures begin to thaw snowmen of different sorts dotting the city.
Police reported no significant incidents related to the winter storm passing through. Power outages occuring as limbs burdened with the weight of the snow pushed onto electric lines.There are 8 images in this gallery
