Eunice sales tax revenue up dramatically in January over December

Sales tax revenue in Eunice made a dramatic 46.5 percent increase from December to January, according to the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
January Eunice revenue was $550,155, up from the $375,583 collected in December.
The January revenue would reflect sales in December through the first of January.
But Eunice sales tax revenue for January was down 4.6 percent from the $576,495 collected in January 2016.
The January revenue was the highest monthly collection since January 2016.
St. Landry Parish total sales tax revenue jumped 48.4 percent jump from December’s $4,702,411 to January’s $6,977,524.
The January collection was up 5.9 percent from the $6,587,776 collected in January 2016.
The parish total for January is likely a historic high given that January 2014 was the first month where revenue from a 2 percent sales in unincorporated areas appeared. That first month’s revenue, which is dedicated to a parish road improvement program, was $226.
The parish sales tax total includes parish, school, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish rates.
On April 1, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
