The following are from the July 2006 files of The Eunice News.
Roger Young announced his campaign for reelection to the St. Landry Parish School Board.
Dr. William Nunez, chancellor at LSUE, was honored by LifePoint Inc., the operator of Acadian Medical Center, as the outstanding board member among five nominees from 48 hospitals in 19 states.
Dollar General was opening a store at 910 E. Laurel Ave. with 26-year-old Jonathan Shaw as manager. His wife, Karen, was managing the Dollar General on the west side of the city.
The Fourth of July celebration turned into a soggy day, but the fun went on at the Northwest Pavilion. Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie performed.
Officers in the Catholic Daughters of America Court 208 for 2006-2008 were Mary Hebert, treasurer; Beverly Miller, financial secretary; Lynn Pavich, regent; Loretta Simon, vice regent; Betty Soileau, district deputy; and Melba Stelly, recording secretary. The installation took place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne.
Sunnie Aucoin received the Distinguished Service Award at St. Edmund High School.
LSUE announced it would offer courses in GIS — geographical information systems — in the fall.
