Eight tons of food and other items were collected Tuesday during the 30th annual Eunice Food Bank Food Drive.
Last year’s annual food drive Eunice Food Bank collected a little over five tons of food items and goods.
Deacon David Guillory, The Greater Eunice Ministerial Alliance president, said, “As always, the support from our community, its citizens, churches, businesses, schools, was tremendous. We are grateful for all donations received. The food bank will continue to feed those in need and with your continued support many families will be fed.”
The annual food drive is officially over, but the need continues.
Mary Ann Guillory, director of the food bank, said donations are accepted any time
Guillory added, “Never too late to give, we will accept. In particular in need are diapers, toilet paper, paper towels, all paper goods.”
Monetary donations are accepted as well.
Guillory commends and thanks all the volunteers who helped with Tuesday’s food drive, “whether they were unloading food items from vehicles, sorting food items, weighing food, etc., their help was very much appreciated.”
Guillory said, “I had more volunteers than years before, even a handful of new faces. Some volunteers stayed throughout the entire duration, from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. I am so grateful and thankful for all volunteers.”
The food bank is located at 251 W. Park, and opened Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. until noon.
The Eunice Food Bank serves about 250 families on average per month.
