What better way than eating different foods to set off a Mardi Gras season than a taster’s event? And that is what the large crowd did at the 7th annual Taster’s Choice (Le Courir De Mardi Gras Pour Le Clinic) event held at the Acadian Center at LSUE Wednesday evening.
The event is a cooking competition is the major fundraiser for the Eunice Community Health Center.
The professional participants included Rocky’s Cajun Kitchen serving seafood pasta, GG Catering served tamales and Cajun Partie Team served their secret homemade recipe of salsa.
The amateur participants were I Care Johnson, crawfish etouffee; Maple Avenue Pharmacy, wild hog and deer meat sauce; Trinity Medical Supply, Frey Companies, pot roasted duck; Bordelon, pulled pork; Lillian Chapman Harrison, sauce; Lillian Chapman Harrison, homemade pies; Cajun Partie Team, deer chili; AJB Cupcakes, cupcakes; EnLink, alligator chili; Brenda Miller, brownies; City of Eunice Mayor and Council, crawfish etouffee; 2 Pots & A Cajun, pork sauce piquante; Sugar & Spice, Patriots VFW 8971, shrimp and okra gumbo; Fontenot Lawn Service, chicken, pork, beef and sausage jambalaya; Mardi Gras Association, chicken and sausage gumbo; 2 Old Roughnecks Hawkeye & Popeye, beef and sausage sauce; Eunice Career Center & Technical Education Center, Cajun red beans and rice; Team Blue (Blue Cross Blue Shield of La.), vanilla cake; and Grace Home Health, chicken and sausage gumbo.
Geno Delafose provided live Cajun Zydeco entertainment for the crowd.
Yancy Fontenot, executive director at the Eunice Community Health Center, said, “I was pleasantly pleased with the outcome and people who came out, and appreciate the support of the community.”
