Jarvis Keon Carey, age 22, 518 Walnut St., Melville, La., arrested by Melville Police Dept., charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

David Mike Perez, age 30, 219 North Gum Street, Melville, La., charged with 2 counts of burglary of an inhabited dwelling, 2 counts of theft, and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Work begins on Culture Center-Liberty repair project

Work resumed Thursday on installation of a temporary piping system, the successful completion of which is necessary before the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center and the Liberty Theater complex can re-open.

Margaret Leger begins new career

There’s something missing amid the bustle in Eunice High School halls this session -- the effervescent Margaret Leger has moved on.
Leger, who likely bleeds Bobcat green, will for the first time in 33 years sit among other sport spectators when Eunice High School plays its home football games.

Fontenot takes over Miller clinic

After 44 years, Dr. Benjamin Miller has passed the torch to another Eunice native, Dr. Jerome Fontenot.
Miller Veterinary Hospital opened in 1965 on Maple Avenue. Since that time, Miller has treated thousands of four-legged patients, and after 44 years, he felt it was time to retire.
“I’m glad to pass it on to another Eunice native,” Miller said. “I played football at Eunice High with his father Raymond; he was a year ahead of me.

City suspends building demolition pending asbestos check

The city has suspended demolition of the former Food Bank building until it can meet correct environmental protection procedures.
After auctioning declared surplus at the Fairgrounds Street location earlier this month, the city began to tear the old structure down.
Before it got very far along, the Department of Environmental Quality advised it to stop work until proper steps were taken.
