Acadian Cultural Center hosts Debris Art with Trish Ransom

Body

The Acadian Cultural Center hosts Debris Art, an exhibit by local artist Trish Ransom through Marsh 27.
Admission to both the exhibit and the center is free and open to the public. The Acadian Cultural Center of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve is located at 501 Fisher Road, Lafayette. For more information, call 337-232-0789 ext. 201 or visitnps.gov/jela.
“Ransom uses salvaged items and found objects to create her ‘trash to treasure’ art, basing it on the four Rs of recycling: reduce, reuse, recycle, rethink,” said Acadian Cultural Center Park Guide Nicki Castoro. “Her inventive and thought-provoking art is the perfect way to celebrate Women’s History Month. We’re especially excited about the special public art participation day on Saturday, March 23, when Ransom will work with center visitors to make a masterpiece.”
Ransom is a California native who studied art at Stanford University and who was drawn to Louisiana through her love for dancing and zydeco music. She felt as though she’d come home when she settled in Grand Coteau in 1999. Ransom is still dancing and listening to zydeco and now works as an artist and art educator, presenting Debris Art workshops in libraries and schools.
The Acadian Cultural Center is managed by the National Park Service as part of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. The center is open Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to noon.
