The Eunice News wins several state press awards

The Eunice News won three first-place awards in the Louisiana Press Association Better Newspaper Competition for 2016.
The awards were presented Saturday during the Mississippi Press Association/Louisiana Press Association Joint Convention in Biloxi, Mississippi.
The Texas Press Association judged the competition this year.
Forty-seven newspapers, publications, and college, and university student newspapers submitted 2,408 entries.
The Eunice News competed in Division 5, which includes newspapers with average circulation of 1,500 to 2,999.
Myra Miller, Lifestyle editor, won first-place in the Best News Photo competition for a photo of carport fire at 450 E. Maple Ave. published April 21, 2016.
Tom Dodge entered three photos to win a first-place award in the Best Sports Photo category. The photos were Gators down Jays, Fun in the Sun and Luther ends Bobcats season.
Harlan Kirgan, editor, won a first-place award in the Best Continuing Coverage of a Single News Event for reporting of the August 2016 flooding and its aftermath.
The Eunice News also won second place for Best Breaking News Story for its August flood coverage.
Tom Dodge, sports editor, won second-place in the Best Overall Sports Coverage competition.
Dodge also won a third-place award for Best Sports Story, which included stories on Leblanc overcomes obstacles and Spaceman lands on big scene.
The Eunice News won third-place awards for Best Front Page and General Excellence.
The contest marks the second year in a row that The Eunice News has placed in the General Excellence category, which judges a newspaper’s overall quality in editorial and advertising content.
