Sales tax revenue up from 2016 levels

Sales tax collections in Eunice and St. Landry Parish tumbled from April to May, but are up from May 2016, according to statistics from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
Eunice sales tax revenue in May was $411,583, down from $503,493 in April — a 18 percent decrease.
Total sales tax revenue in St. Landry Parish in May was $5,082,233, down from $6,452,453 in April — a 21 percent decrease.
The parish sales tax total includes collections for parish, school, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
Eunice sales tax revenue for January through May was $2,241,523, down $17,236 or 0.8 percent from the same five months in 2016.
St. Landry Parish January through May sales tax revenue was $28,329,011, a 4.2 percent or $$1,135,571 increase from the same period in 2016.
Eunice’s sales tax revenue in May of $411,583 is $14,206 or 3.6 percent greater than in May 2016.
The parish’s total May revenue of $5,082,233 is a 3.4 percent or $164,945 increase over May 2016’s collections
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish rates.
On April 1, 2016, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
