Iota woman dies in crash

State Police say no seat belt in use

Miriah Cox of Iota was not wearing a seat belt when her vehicle hurtled off U.S. Hwy. 90 Sunday morning and struck a tree.
The 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She was alone in the vehicle.
State Police said the accident happened west of Crowley shortly after 1 a.m.
Cox was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when her vehicle left the road. As she attempted to re-enter the highway Cox’s vehicle struck a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to come apart.
Investigators said alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash and chemical tests are pending at the State Police Crime Lab.
