The annual Food for Families food drive, sponsored by KLFY, TV-10 for the 22nd year, will be held in Evangeline Parish Wednesday, December 10, from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Ville Platte’s food drive will be at the Northside Civic Center.
Mamou’s Food Drive will be at the religious education building adjacent to St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
Eugene Fontenot, director of Care and Share, said Ville Platte has lots of entertainment planned at this year’s food drive. Santa also will make his yearly visit to the food drive.
“We’re very low on food, especially since the hurricane,” Fontenot said. He asked the community to assist Ville Platte’s Care and Share with its empty cupboards. He said items like high protein foods, especially peanut butter and canned meats, are needed.
Monetary donations will be accepted. Fontenot said many come to Care and Share for assistance with utilities.
Volunteers are needed to help unload and sort food. You can work a shift or all day; organizers say any help will be appreciated.
Fontenot said those interested in helping in Ville Platte should contact him at 831-1180. (Care and Share is open Mondays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Volunteers like Ollie Bright, P.L. Fontenot and Annetta, who Fontenot couldn’t recall her last name, are valuable to the operation. He thanked all volunteers for their continued dedication.)
