OPELOUSAS - The annual preseason ritual of brisket and pigskin was the kick-off to the season Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair and the other St. Landry Parish public school coaches have been waiting for.
The St. Landry Parish football jamboree will be held Friday, Aug. 29 at Donald Gardner Stadium.
The first game sets Beau Chene against Northwest, followed by North Central facing Port Barre.
In the 8:45 p.m. finale, Eunice will face Opelousas High.
“We push our players really hard,” Trosclair said of the Bobcats. “We should have a good year, but we have to remain hungry.
“Last year’s success (11-2, 4-0 in District 4-4A) does not automatically carry over to this year.
“We are excited about the jamboree and the start of the season,” the coach said. “Hopefully when the season is over, we would have been successful.”
First year OHS coach Mickey Autrey is returning to the Tiger program as he was the head coach from 1984-86.
“We are excited about the 85 players we have on the roster,” Autrey said. “Now we have to find 22 that can play.
“When we show up on Friday nights, I hope the the Orange and Black is back.
“We will play an aggressive defense and have an offense I hope can move the ball.
“Special teams is also very important to us.”
Superintendent Michael Nassif told the group that winning does not come by accident.
“When you have something that is successful, it doesn’t just happen,” he said.
“There is a lot of work and a lot of effort that goes behind it.”
