Brand new District Judge Laura Rougeau Garcille cited her faith, family and friends as pillars of support in her life leading to her judgeship. A 30-minute swearing-in ceremony for Garcille was held Wednesday at the St. Landry Parish Courthouse in Opelousas. “I’m still in disbelief that this is my life especially from where I come from it has been a long ways,” she said after reciting her oath of office from Supreme Court Associate Justice James Genovese. “I wouldn’t have made it through the election process without your guidance and prayers,” she told the family, friends, supporters and priests present.
