Evelyn Stafford went home to be with Jesus at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15th, at the age of 93.
Evelyn was born on August 27, 1925 in Mowata, Louisiana. She graduated from Crowley High School and received a BS in Nursing from Louisiana State University. She trained at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans.
She then went on to receive her master’s degree. She worked as a private duty nurse for several years. She met the love of her life, Norris Stafford, at First Baptist Church in New Orleans where he first ushered her to her seat. They were married on June 3, 1951, and returned to the family farm in Mowata, Louisiana to start a family.
Evelyn had the gift of hospitality and always took care of the needs of others. She was usually the first to take meals to those in need. Known among the residents of Mowata as “Nurse Evelyn”, she enjoyed life on the farm and frequently helped neighbors who came over to get their blood pressure checked or with other medical advice.
Evelyn was a member of First Baptist Church in Lafayette for many years where she was active in the WMU, choir and serving in the church nursery. In 2012, she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to be closer to her daughter and grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Norris Lee Stafford, her parents, August Robert Loewer and Myrtle Mae Goss, her sister, Elsie Gilchriest, and her son, Timothy Philip Stafford.
She is survived by one daughter, Candy Stafford Trenary and her husband, Ralph, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one daughter-in-law, Karen Cherry Stafford, of Pineville, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Benjamin William Stafford and his wife, Melissa, of Baton Rouge, Logan Loewer Stafford and wife, Courtney, of Pineville, Louisiana, Tyler Faulk of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Aaron Faulk of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; four great grandchildren, William David, Rowan Timothy, Jackson Thomas and Kerrigan Estelle, and many friends and neighbors.
Services for Evelyn Stafford will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Richard, Louisiana, with Rev. Tim Hisaw officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley, Louisiana.
Visitation celebrating the life of Evelyn Stafford will be at Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley, Louisiana, on Friday, January 18th, between the hours of 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
Honored pallbearers serving will be grandsons Ben Stafford, Logan Stafford, Tyler Faulk, Aaron Faulk, and Dwayne Zaunbrecher and Brody Coleman.
Memorials may be made in Evelyn’s honor to Acadian Baptist Center.
