EUNICE–It is with the heaviest hearts that the family of Lourella S. Fontenot announces her passing on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the age of 93.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Entombment will follow in the St. Paul Mausoleum.
Mrs. Lou as she was known to many was in the retail business for sixty-four years and was the owner and manager of O’Day Fontenot’s General Merchandise Store and later O’Days Young World.
It was always a pleasure to walk in to O’Day’s and see Mrs. Lou sweet smile and sweet personality. She loved embroidering and sewing, but most of all she loved her family and spending time with them was a great deal of joy to her.
She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her especially her son, Marcus Fontenot of Eunice; her daughter, Sharlene F. Laughlin and husband, Glenn of Eunice; her sister, Merlyn Guillory and late husband, Herman of Ville Platte; her two grandsons, Sean Laughlin and wife, Kathryn and Michael Laughlin and wife, Katelyn all of Houston TX; her five great grandchildren, Lily Kate, Julia, Abigail, Luke, and Emily Laughlin; as well as extended family and numerous friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rowland Fontenot; her parents, Marius, and Lena Vidrine Soileau; her nine siblings, Percy Soileau, Yves Soileau, Melvin Soileau, Rhines Soileau, Calvin Soileau, Marius Soileau, Jr, Celestine Soileau, Evelyn Soileau and Vonola Soileau.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Tuesday, February 23 from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Deacon Chuck Ortego will recite a Rosary at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
