An alert St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Deputy thought he recognized the driver of a vehicle he stopped for a traffic violation Wednesday. He was right, and a chase was on.

Investigators said the deputy made a traffic stop on U.S. 190 near Eunice shortly before noon.

As he approached the vehicle, he recognized the driver as Andrea Fuselier, 28, of Mamou, an inmate trustee who had not returned to jail from work release on Tuesday.

As the deputy attempted to taker Fuselier into custody, she fled in her vehicle, leading a pursuit onto La. 13 and south into Acadia Parish.

Once stopped, she was charged with aggravated flight, impeding the flow of traffic and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
