According to the New York Times, Blumenthal received five military deferments from the military between 1965-70. He did join the Marine Reserve in 1970 to assure he did not go to war and served six years of stateside duty, mostly in the Washington, D.C area working on a Toys for Tots program. Not once did he leave the United States in a military uniform.
Since 1970 Blumenthal gave hundreds of speeches to military gatherings and often mentioned his physical involvement in the Vietnam War. At one event printed in the Connecticut Post Blumenthal stated “when we returned from Vietnam, I remember the taunts, the verbal and even physical abuse we encountered.” His fantasy prompted him to tell all of his audiences of his presence in Vietnam during the war.
Every video and printed statements made by Blumenthal concludes that he is a fraud, a coward and a habitual liar. He has used the military to boost his ego and simply because he supported the military in his mind it was okay to lie. Now that this country and the world knows that he is a fraud, Blumenthal would be sick to think that he will get the military vote in Connecticut.
There are others who succeeded in rising to high office in the United States by using “slick” methods. Bill Clinton refused to stick around. He grabbed his Rhodes Scholar papers and left the country. George W. picked up his training as a pilot. He took off in that jet and it took him a long time to report for duty. Both allowed the smoke to settle and ended up in the Oval Office.
Determined to get to Washington by using false military information, Blumenthal wanted to join his buddy who presently occupies the Oval Office who used a brazen tactic of total arrogance, traveled from outside of the United States and over a very short period of time “hoodwinked” this country and the entire world that he was the “real deal.”
One good thing Blumenthal could learn from this is that he is being “discouraged’’ before getting caught. “Take a look at Washington “Tricky Dick”-- did you really want some of that?” Also from the majority of Vietnam veterans you tried to impersonate -- a liar is a liar -----.
