St. Landry Parish students showed their art, technology, and filled the Courthouse Square with music on Saturday during the second annual Arts and STEAM festival.
“I think it was of the many good things that we have going on now,” said School Board President and Eunice School Board member Mary Ellen Donatto.
“We intend to continue to be involved in this. I think it is awesome because we know what our students do, but the general public doesn’t know until you put on a function like this,” she said.
Superintendent Milton Batiste III said, “I think it is important because again it helps spark student interest. It helps keep students interested in school.”
The student projects on display included metalworking, carpentry and artwork,
The program is organized by the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
“We have a partnership with the St. Landry Parish School Board that’s very similar to our partnership with the Lafayette Parish School Board where we bring art activities, peformances and also teaching artists into every single school,” said Samuel Oliver., director the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
“We wanted to put on something to really help celebrate and recognize the partnership and really just show off the talent that goes on behind the scenes in those public schools,” he said.
Oliver said one bonus for the students is they learn they can make money from their talents.
