Jamborees kick off baseball, softball seasons

The annual Perry Pitre Ford baseball jamboree will be held this weekend at both high school fields.
The junior varsity jamboree will be held Friday at Eunice High.
The varsity jamboree is set for Saturday at Blue Jay Field.
Friday’s action begins at 3:30 p.m. when Iota faces Opelousas Catholic.
Teurlings Catholic and Notre Dame meet at 5 p.m. followed by Mamou - Sacred Heart of Ville Platte at 6:30 p.m.
The Eunice High and St. Edmund junior varsity face each other at 8 p.m.
Sacred Heart and Mamou begin Saturday’s games at 10 a.m.at Blue Jay Field.
Ascension Episcopal and Iota battle at noon, followed by Pine Prairie and Opelousas Catholic at 2 p.m.
St. Edmund and Eunice conclude the jamboree at 4 p.m.
“We are trying to find our line-up,” St. Edmund head coach Scott Richard said. “We will be switching players in and out of the line-up.
“We are a very young team with three seniors, three juniors and the rest sophomores and freshmen,” Richard said.
Richard is proud of the improvements made at North Park since last season.
“It is a good thing for the school,” the coach said. “We are proud of what it looks like now even with more things to do.”
The St. Landry Parish softball jamboree will be held Thursday through Saturday at Beau Chene’s field.
At 4 p.m. Thursday, the Beau Chene junior varsity will face Lafayette Christian followed by the Port Barree JV against Ville Platte.
The St. Edmund Lady Jays will take on Lafayette Christian at 6 p.m.
Opelousas and Northwest will battle at 7 p.m.
Friday’s action begins at 4 p.m. when the Lafayette Christian junior varsity faces Opelousas Catholic.
The Lafayette Christian varsity takes on Opelousas Catholic at 5 p.m, followed by St. Edmund – Beau Chene.
Friday’s schedule concluded with the SHVP junior varsity facing Opelousas Catholic.
The tournament concludes with five games Saturday, beginning with the Beau Chene JV taking on Port Barre JV at 10 a.m.
OHS will face Port Barre at 11 a.m, followed by Eunice High – Northwest.
Beau Chene and Sacred Heart battle at 1 p.m., while Eunice and Port Barre close the jamboree at 2 p.m.
