Robin Jeffers, 33, who lived in Carencro, was hit while slowing from a turning vehicle on Harry Guilbeau Road.
Her SUV was pushed by the collision across the centerline and into the path of an on-coming tractor-trailer.
The other drivers had minor injuries.
The names, ages and places of residents of the other drivers were not included in a State Police news release.
State Police said the accident remains under investigation and reminded drivers that driver distraction is quickly becoming one of the largest contributing factors in motor vehicle crashes across the country.
Distracted driving is any non-driving activity a person engages in that has the potential to distract him, or her, from the primary task of driving and increase the risk of crashing. While distracted driving comes in many forms, from texting and talking on a cell phone, to eating, or simply playing with the radio, the result is often the same.
