The Ville Platte Magnolia Garden Club presented its Civic Pride Award for July to LaVille Funeral Home located on Main Street. The colorful bed features zinnias, red-eye vinca, knock-out roses and crepe myrtle trees in an island design. The grounds are well-groomed throughout. The club awarded the Garden of the Month prize to Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Richard. An outstanding blue plumbago encircles the front entrance, accented by lavender vinca. The bed continues with formal shaping of pittisporium incorporated with chi-chi camellias. An unusually small tree bearing light blue flowers, an ornamental fruit called Durante erecta or sky flower, enriches the setting. The Magnolia Garden Club thanks the community for its efforts in keeping yards and surrounding areas litter-free and well-groomed.
