Mr. Kloor was born at home on April 15, 1924 in Crowley, Louisiana to George and Louise Kloor. He graduated from Crowley High School in 1941 and was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corp which had many performances in the Crowley area. He enrolled in the Coast Guard on June 4, 1942.
He served in World War II as a gunner’s mate aboard an LST. His LST was commended by General Douglas MacArthur for their service in nine successful invasions in the South Pacific. His unit was cited by Admiral Chester Nimitz and recommended for Presidential Citation.
He received the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with 7 bronze stars upon his honorable discharge in March, 1946.
After the service, he returned to Lake Charles and became a member of Local Union 106, Plumbers and Steamfitters. He married on May 21, 1949 to Agnes “Amy” Farber. He is survived by his partner of 6 years, Bettye and his 5 children, Randy, John, Kathy, Eric, Colleen, and his 6 grandchildren.
Throughout George’s life, he donated hundreds of hours of his time to many different causes. He was given the Outstanding VA Volunteer Award several times during his brief stay in Arizona for over 800 hours of work with Hospice. He was given a Certificate of Appreciation for his work for the Veterans of Foreign Wars on their Political Action Committee. He donated countless hours to his Church and community.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan Trouille will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 6 p.m. until time of services.
