Baseball jamboree set for weekend

The high school baseball season is about to begin as the annual jamboree is set for next weekend at both North Park and Bobcat Field.

The junior varsity jamboree will be held Friday with five games.

Iota takes on Oakdale at 3:30 p.m. followed by Oakdale - St. Edmund at 4:40 p.m.

The St. Ed - Eunice contest is set for 7 p.m. with host Eunice facing Notre Dame in the finale at 8:10 p.m.

The varsity jamboree will be held Saturday at North Park beginning at 10 a.m. with Pine Prairie taking on Iota.

Opelousas Catholic and Pine Prairie will square off at 11:10 a.m. followed by Iota-Sacred Heart of Ville Platte at 12:20 p.m.

The Mamou Green Demons will face Opelousas Catholic at 1:30 p.m. followed by SHVP - Eunice at 2:40 p.m.

The host Blue Jays will face Mamou at 3:50 p.m. with the St. Ed - EHS battle concludes the jamboree at 5 p.m.

“We have some good quality teams coming in to play,” St. Edmund head coach Tré Brown said of the competition. “It is a good start to the season and it prepares you for not only early in the season but down the road as well.

“We only play Eunice in the jamboree each year,” Brown said. “But it is great competition as all the kids know each other and it should be a good game.”

Each team is set to play two three-inning games according tot he coach.

The freshmen jamboree will be held on Sunday at EHS with the Bobcats taking on Notre Dame at noon, followed by Teurlings - Notre Dame at 1:30 p.m. Eunice will take on Teurlings at 3 p.m. in the finale.
