CROWLEY – On Friday, March 20, the Chamber of Commerce hosted a Network at Noon, which was held at Fezzo’s Seafood and Steakhouse in Crowley. The group welcomed political candidates for the Office of Public Service Commissioner District 4, Gil Pinac of Crowley and Representative Clyde Holloway of Forest Hill. The thied candidate, Joe McPherson did not attend the event.

The candidates shared information about themselves and encouraged each person to vote in the upcoming election, and provided information about the duties of the Public Service Commissioner job.

The basic duties of this job, as many Louisiana residents are unaware, are very pertinent yet little information is known on the subject.

As part of the executive branch, the Public Service Commission, which is made up of five members, areelected and chosen in single-member districts for staggered six-year terms.

The commission is an independent regulatory agency which is dedicated to the public interest by assuring safe, reliable and reasonably priced services for public utilities and motor carriers.

In addition to these responsibilities, the Public Service Commission takes an active role in the development of a competitive, market-based approach of utility regulation whenever such an approach is in the interest of the public.

Not present, but also in the race for the office of Public Service Commissioner is Senator Joe McPhearson of Woodworth.

The election will take place Saturday, April 4.
