Women who undergo routine mammograms at either of our campuses in Ville Platte or Eunice now have the latest diagnostic technology available to them, digital mammography. Mercy Regional Medical Center and its campus Acadian Medical Center feature the state-of-the-art system, Selenia™ digital mammography.

Mercy Regional and Acadian Medical are very excited to be able to offer the newest technology for breast cancer detection. Digital mammography is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is acquired and, more importantly, viewed. The radiologist can magnify the images, increase or decrease the contrast and invert the black and white values while reading the images. These features allow the radiologist to evaluate microcalcifications and focus on areas of concern.

The hospital has the capability of computer-aided detection (CAD) software with each mammography interpretation. CAD is used by the radiologist to assist in making a more definitive diagnosis. CAD actually brings areas to the radiologist attention which may require further evaluation. The radiologist then makes the decision whether the work-up will benefit the patient.
