Eunice substation is not closing

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s substation in Eunice is not closing, Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said.
Guidoz explained that four dispatchers who had worked at the station were transferred to the Opelousas office to save money.
The move will allow one more patrol deputy at the station, he said.
Guidroz also announced at the Eunice Rotary Club meeting, that Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux has become the substation supervisor following the retirement of Ricky Leger.

Eunice Police arrest man for attempted armed robbery

Eunice Police were still sorting through a report of an attempted armed robbery Friday morning even thought a suspect had been arrested.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said a call was received from a guy who said a gun had been pointed at him.
Police dispatch logs state the call from the 100 block of Gaspard came three minutes after midnight Thursday.
The victim told the officer that an acquaintance had called him asking for a cigarette, he said.

Eunice man killed in crash

A crash in Acadia Parish at the intersection of La. 365 and 367 on Friday claimed the life of 38-year-old Joseph Devillier of Eunice, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police Troop I.
The wreck, which occurred at about 6 a.m., occurred as Devillier, who was operating a 2017 Toyota Yaris southbound on La 367 approaching LA 365, failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck by a 2013 Dodge Ram truck, traveling west on La 365, police said.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was identified as Justin Savoy, 30, of Branch.
