Branch man sentenced for drug, firearm charges

Yancy Todd Sonnier, 54, of Branch, was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Robert R. Summerhays to serve 86 months in federal prison for drug and firearm charges, U.S. Attorney David Joseph announced.
Sonnier pleaded guilty on Jan. 18 to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person.

Woman says purse with $10,000 in it stolen

A 77-year-old woman reported to Eunice Police that her purse with $10,000 in it was stolen from her car parked in front of Dollar Tree on Tuesday.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fonenot said the incident occurred about 5:15 p.m. at the business near Walmart.
The woman told officers she did not lock the 2005 white, four-door Toyota Corolla because she going into the store for a brief amount of time, he said.
Along with the black purse with the cash, a camera was reported stolen.

Man found passed out in bathroom with child

A customer at Tobacco Plus opened a restroom door to find a unconscious and naked man on the toilet with a crying child on the floor, Eunice Police Lt. Ryan Young said.
The man’s pants were down to his ankles and there was a syringe on the ground, Young said.
A soft drink can was upside down on the lavatory with an unknown substance on top of it, he said.
The customer tried to wake the man up but he failed to respond.
The child, who was behind the toilet, was removed from the bathroom by the customer.

Social media blows up over KC Hall event

Social media blew up over an event at the Knights of Columbus Hall on North 2nd Street early Sunday morning.
The Eunice Police Department radio dispatch logs received a report of shots fired at the KC Hall at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
The event was a party with about 300 people in attendance to be entertained by two rap musicians, Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
