A $41,5000 contract was announced for the construction and improvement of the boat launching ramp at the Eunice City Park Lake. The contract was awarded to R.P. Fontenot, of Eunice.
Kelly Boone, manager of Weill’s, announced the grand opening of the store’s Westgate Shopping Center location. Weill’s Department Store was established in Eunice 39 years ago at a downtown location.
Dr. J.J. Stagg was appointed health director of the St. Landry Parish Health Unit.

Former Eunice mayor and state representative Curtis Joubert received the LSUE University Medal in commencement ceremonies on May 25.
Eunice High School softball team award winners included Leslie Daigle, sportsmanship; Emily Deshotel, coaches’ award; Marcia Allison, outstanding offensive player; Naomi Marcantel, outstanding defensive player; and Lauren Fontenot, academic award and Lady Cat award.

The following are from the May 2002 files of The Eunice News.
A new program emphasizing character issues was launched at a meeting sponsored by the Eunice Ministerial Alliance. The first meeting was held at the First Baptist Church.
Colby Droddy of Eunice High School won the Class 4A championship in javelin at the state meet. Droddy was a junior. The Bobcat team placed 13th in the meet held in Baton Rouge. Droddy also won fifth place in the discuss.
Pam Joubert was named Coach of the Year at Eunice High School. Joubert coached the tennis team.

The following are from the April 1997 files of The Eunice News.
The Eunice Junior Auxiliary was observing its 20th year. Charter members include Pat Bollich, Feetie Brown, Jackie Cashen, Kathleen Derbes, Louwanna DeVillier, Tot DeVillier, Lynette Feucht, Shelby LaHaye, Linda Husers, Laure LaHaye, Belle Manuel, Ann Regan and Janice Sikes. Becky Pucheu was credit in the story as being behind the start of Junior Auxiliary in Eunice.
Wesley and Jane Loewer were appointed as missionaries by the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board. The Loewers were to live in Kenya.

The following are from the April 1997 files of The Eunice. News.
Mayor Kenneth Peart called a meeting of Eunice organizations to discuss creating a retirement community.
Ira Richard was in a photo making a donation to help with advertising about a tax proposal to fund the police department. With Richard was Lt. Bruce Vige.
Joe Bertrand, past president of the Acadian Shrine Club, handed over the gavel to new president, Gerald Bergeron.
