The St. Edmund Blue Jays defeated Sacred Heart 61-55. Josh Andrus led the Blue Jay scorers with 23 points followed by Chuck Bowie with 11.
Eunice High School chemistry students were shown making lye soap. Pictured were Quintesa Ned, Courtney Ardoin, Landry Guillory, Ryan Gortreaux, Lance Vasseur, Aundray Hudson, Lacy Virgen, Rachael Dischler, Clinton Stout and Tracy Veillon. The teacher was John Brinkman.

Commissioner Dale Sittig, of Eunice, was elected chairman of the Louisiana Public Service Commission.
Gayle Keller, a native of Eunice, was to appear on an episode of CBS’s “As the World Turns.” Keller is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Keller.
Lindsy Brown and London Dodd, of Eunice High, were named All-American Cheerleaders by the NCA. They were to perform in the Aloha Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Elizabeth Reed Guillory, of Eunice, was presented the Martin Luther King award at the Liberty Theater as part of the Martin Luther King celebration. She was honored for her work with Parent’s Reach Out.
Gil Young forecast the Mardi Gras crowd to exceed 1,000 people. Carl Olivier was president; Nelson Godeaux, capitaine; Joey Schneider, co-capitaine; Pat Frey, co-capitaine; Lynn LeJeune, secretary; and Greg Savant and Young were board members.

Jesse Guillory was named Eunice Volunteer Fireman of the Year. The award was presented by Mayor Kenneth Peart. The top volunteer firefighters were Guillory, Robert Johnson, Fire Chief Gerald LeJeune, Volunteer Fire Chief Terry Darbonne, Charles Miller, Gayner Martel, Kenneth Duplechin, Silton Johnson, John Brown and Brenden Leger.
Gary Courville was named vice president of the St. Landry Parish Police Jury.

The following are from the December files of The Eunice News.
Hubert “Kutch” Rougeau was elected president of the Eunice Chamber of Commerce. Other officers were Mrs. Myrtle McManus, first vice president; and Ray Kron, second vice president. The outgoing president was Yvonne Tujague.
The Eunice High School Booster Cloub named a committee to work toward a new stadium. Committee members were Mrs. Bernice Broussard, Mrs. T.J. LeBouef, Allen Ortego, T.J. LeBouef, Roland “Red” Prudhomme, Donald J. Bush, Jerry Hoffpauir, Lindsey J. “Red” Aucoin, Barry Soileau and Doris Eldred.
