The agenda for Tuesday’s Eunice Board of Alderman meeting was light as of a meeting Thursday.
Aldermen will be asked to schedule a public hearing on May 9 as part of the process to roll forward property taxes.
The 2017 general alimony is to be adjusted from 6.59 to 6.77 mills. The street maintenance millage is to increase from 4.87 mills to 5 mills.
In St. Landry Parish, the increase form 2016 to 2017 amounts to $18,976 in St. Landry Parish and in Acadia Parish, $788. The total millage revenue will be $29,943 in Acadia Parish and $720,497 in St. Landry Parish.
Reassessment is done every four years and if the assessment increases the city is required to roll back its millage rates to collect about the same revenue as before the valuations increased. However, after a year, the city is allowed to roll its millage rates back to the original level.
Aldermen will be asked to approve the introduction an amendment to the city’s noise ordinance. The amendment will allow exceptions for city-sponsored events as well as city or school sporting activities. The amendment would limit noise from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Exceptions are allowed only if granted by the Board of Aldermen in a public meeting.
Mayor Scott Fontenot said he may discuss the formation of an economic development board.
