Kristy McLemore, Eunice High School assistant principal, was caught off guard early Friday morning prior to the annual Eunice High Class of 2018 Ring Ceremony.
Little did she know that she was on the top of the program.
Sue Girouard, a representative of Jostens, made an announcement that McLemore was the recipient and winner of the 2017 Jostens Renaissance National Educator of the Year.
McLemore was chosen from thousands of applications received and in 2016 only four individuals were chosen from across America.
Along with McLemore’s presentation were St. Landry Parish Superintendent Patrick Jenkins and her principal Mitch Fontenot. In attendance during the recognition were School Board member Roger Young, and Kelly Garrett, school district communications specialist.
A pleasantly surprised McLemore said, “Wow! Thank you for this honor. This honor, recognition, along with work involved, is not just about me. It’s about everyone here, students, faculty. You are a big part of creating who I am.”
With this top honor McLemore will attend the Jostens Renaissance National Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona, from July 13 to 15, and as a 2017 Jostens Renaissance Educator of the Year, she will receive the following benefits:
–Round-trip airfare to and from Phoenix, and will attend a special dinner that evening for the Jostens Hall of Fame and Educator of the Year recipients.
– Complimentary hotel room nights for July 12 through July 15.
–Jostens Renaissance Educator of the Year ring
– A dinner and VIP reception
–Recognition throughout the 2017 Jostens Renaissance National Conference with signage and pre-recorded video commentary for the Awards Gala.
