Students learn about the importance of exercise and staying healthy. Muscle Round. Students in the resource classroom at Glendale Elementary enjoyed a visit to a local health club. They were excited about learning about the heart and how it pumps blood to the muscles. Pictured in front from left are April O‘Quinn and Derek Allison. In middle are Tiffany LaFleur, Halie Guillory, Naomi Guillory, Michael Rogers and Charles Warren. In back are Tommy Robicheaux, Wesley McGee, Dax Dupre, Robert Brown and Charles Warren.
Student makes Doll. April O’Quinn, a student in Renee Torpy’s class at Glendale Elementary, made a doll from scrap material after visiting Vermilionville and seeing a demonstration on the dolls. She added an apron and a bonnet, her idea, and presented the doll to her teacher as a keepsake. O’Quinn explained that the lady at Vermilionville showed her how to make legs for the doll, but she couldn’t remember that technique. The doll also has a place on it to hang on a door.
Social Studies winners. Students at Glendale Elementary participated in a Social Studies Fair. The students used ideas like Betsy Ross, Alberta, Old Glory, Louisiana Symbols, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and Erosion of the Soil. Pictured from left are Paige Thibodeaux, Erica Granger, Rachel Darbonne, Sonya Chapman, all placed in the competition; Jean Anderson, Creighton Aucoin and Alberta Leger. Judges for the event were Germaine Courville and Carissa Hebert.
Community Supporters entertained. The Eunice Vocational School, located behind Eunice Elementary on South Tenth Street, trains young people to work in today’s world. Nursing students spend time working at Moosa Memorial Hospital, and others work at the Eunice Care Center. A luncheon, prepared by Martha Guempel and her students, was served Friday for business advisers who work closely with the school and afterward they toured the facility. The people are Saundra Frey of The Eunice Care Center, Lynn Pavich of Moosa Memorial; Senthia Thomas of Eunice Care Center, Clifton Clause, school board member and local contractor; and Jo Ann DeRouen, nursing instructor at the school. At back, center, is Martha Guempel.
