Taster’s Choice a hit in its 10th year

A crowd gathered at LSUE Acadian Center for tasting and sampling of different foods during the 10th annual Taster’s Choice (Le Courir De Mardi Gras Pour Le Clinic) on Wednesday.
The event is a cooking competition and is the major fundraiser for the Eunice Community Health Center.
Those cooking in professional and amateur divisions were awarded People’s Choice Best Decorated, People’s Choice Professional, Taster’s Choice Amateur, and People’s Choice overall awards.
The winners are: People’s Choice Best Decorated, Coushatta Casino; People’s Choice (Professional) for Entree’, G&G Catering for tamales; Coushatta Casino for soup; and the Dessert winner went to Love Bonez for fried bread pudding.
The Taster’s Choice (Amateur) winners are: for Wild game, Frey/D&C Electric for deer chili; Deshotel & Thrifty Way won for Entree’ of Ribs; for seafood Sattler’s & R&Z Farms for their crawfish fettuccine; and The Eunice City Marshals won in the desserts for their brownies.
The People’s Choice award in the Professional division went to Love Bonez for fried bread pudding and in the Amateur division the winner of People’s Choice award went to Enlink Midstream for their alligator chili.
Glyn Michaud, pharmacist at Maple Avenue Pharmacy and supporter of the health clinic, said, “This year’s event was most likely the best ever, and attendance also... I would have to guess anywhere from 500 to 550 people attended.”
Yancy Fontenot is the executive director at Eunice Community Health Center.
Geno Delafose provided live Cajun Zydeco entertainment for the crowd. There was also a silent and live auction.
