U.S. News & World Report grades UL Lafayette among the ‘best’

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is among the top 311 national universities cited in U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 edition of “Best Colleges.”
The annual guidebook for prospective college students was released today.
National universities emphasize research and offer bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs.
U.S. News &World Report’s best national universities include 190 public, 114 private and seven for-profit institutions, based on the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
UL Lafayette is classified as a doctorate-granting institution with the second-highest level of research activity.
The rankings are compiled based on a range of factors, including graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, social mobility and alumni giving.
The number of STEM degrees – an acronym for Science, Technology, Math and Engineering – versus total number of degrees awarded is also considered.
The 2019 edition of “Best Colleges” includes information on more than 1,800 colleges and universities in the United States. School profiles provide specifics on academic life, financial aid, and student body makeup.
The guide also has rankings for almost 1,400 schools in a range of categories.
UL Lafayette is ranked in several categories: undergraduate engineering programs at schools whose highest degree is a doctorate (tied for No. 162); high school counselor rankings (tied for No. 209); and undergraduate business programs (tied for No. 249).
Several of its online programs are recognized: nursing (tied for No. 84); online bachelor’s programs (tied for No. 94); and online graduate education programs (tied for No. 180).
UL Lafayette graduate programs are lauded in several categories: speech-language pathology (tied for No. 81); education (tied for No. 172); nursing master’s (tied for No. 173); and biological sciences (tied for No. 175).
Other University graduate programs and schools cited are: business; part-time MBA; computer science; engineering; English; mathematics; and nursing doctorate.
