Eunice man faces multiple charges after deputies search

Norman James Ceasar, 30, of the 300 block of West Ardoin Street, Eunice, faces multiple charges after St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department detectives executive a search warrant at his residence, according to a news release from Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

Smoked Meat Festival scheduled released

The 26th Louisiana Smoked Meat Festival, which is hosted by Viande Boucanee, Inc. in conjunction with area corporate and private sponsors, is scheduled in May.. The festival will be held at the Ville Platte Civic Center and Pavilion.

Opelousas man accused of stabbing his mother to death

A 28-year-old Opelousas man said he was arguing with his mother when she grabbed a knife out of his hands and cut him at the base of his fingers, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said in a news release.

Child, 5, injured on Maple Ave.

A 5-year-old child running to a school bus about 8 a.m. Tuesday was injured when he was struck by pickup truck, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said. The child was late and darted into traffic on Maple, Fontenot said.

Governor’s top priority is teacher pay

Gov. John Bel Edwards presented a hopeful State of the State address Monday at the Capitol to open the 2019 legislative session. Edwards’ tone stood in sharp contrast to the last few sessions in which lawmakers fought extensively over how to solve state budget problems.

Firefighter honored

Connor Manuel, an 18-year-old volunteer firefighter with St. Landry Parish Fire District 6, received the Louisiana State Fireman’s Association’s first Medal of Valor at the Eunice Board of Aldermen’s meeting Tuesday. The medal recognizes firefighters who have gone above and beyond the normal duty.
