World Championship Crawfish Etouffeé Cook-off is today

The steaming hot crawfish étouffeé is likely to taste extremely good on Sunday as the weather forecast calls for a high in the mid-50s and cloudy. The 34th annual World Championship Crawfish Etouffeé Cook-off is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Northwest Pavilion on Samuel Drive.

Head Start centers to get new playgrounds

All 10 Head Start centers in St. Landry Parish are to receive new playgrounds. June Inhern, director, said there is $800,000 for the playgrounds and additional money for technology in the classrooms. The news was delivered at a special meeting of the St. Landry Parish School Board on Wednesday.

Tri-Parish workforce stabilizes

The Tri-Parish workforce tallied 67,493 people in February, up 39 from February 2018’s workforce count, according to not seasonally adjusted numbers from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics. The workforce includes those people employed and those looking for jobs in the state count.
