Eunice Elementary, which experienced one building damaged by fire on Aug. 14, 2018, has been coping with water damage at its administrative building.
On Friday, work was being done to move administrators to a temporary building on the campus.
The temporary building and a bathroom are located next to four portable classrooms moved to the campus after the fire.
Claudia Blanchard, school system director of operations, said the administration building took on water Dec. 27.
A temporary office has been set up in one of the classroom buildings until the temporary office is set up.
The administration building included office space, a library, computer lab, restrooms and a classroom used for music, Blanchard said.
At the fire-damaged building, Blanchard said asbestos abatement has been completed. Asbestos was in the floor tile that had to be replaced after the Aug. 14 fire.
The building’s roof is also to be replaced, but that had been planned prior to the fire.
At an Aug. 2 meeting, the School Board approved a roof replacement project costing $1,099,000 for Eunice Elementary and Eunice Junior High School.
The renovation will include the installation of LED lighting, she said.
In January, the School Board approved a $364,300 bid from Martin Insulations and Coatings, LLC, for renovation of one of three buildings on the Eunice Elementary campus.
The school system has a $25,000 deductible on its insurance policy with Dupre, Carrier Godchaux Insurance.
School Board employee Charles Jerry carries items from the classroom building damaged by fire in August 2018.
