Hero firefighter to be honored at city meeting

A volunteer firefighter who helped a pregnant woman escape from a burning vehicle on Interstate 10 in Lafayette in March will be honored during Tuesday’s Eunice Board of Aldermen meeting.
Connor Manuel, a volunteer firefighter with St. Landry Parish Fire District 6, is to receive the first medal of honor to be presented by the Louisiana State Fireman’s Association, said Eunice Fire Chief Mike Arnold.
Manuel is a volunteer for St. Landry Parish Fire District 6.
The honor was placed on the meeting’s agenda at a Board session on Thursday at City Hall.
Also on the agenda are three properties. They are 451 E. Dean Ave., 620 Bernice St., and 1211 Gregg St.
Bill Thompson, code enforcement officer, said the Dean Avenue property was damaged in a fire and nothing has been done to repair it.
Ginny Moody, city clerk, said the Bernice property was condemned last month.
And, the Gregg Street property has also been on the city’s radar for its appearance.
The state champion-winning Eunice High School football team is to be recognized the meeting, which starts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the second floor council chambers.
