Two men who stood trial together for an ambush murder now face life sentences after they were convicted of second-degree murder. St. Landry Parish District Attorney Chad Pitre reported Marcus Chenier, 27, of Opelousas and Jevon Figaro, 26. of Lafayette, found guilty after a seven-day trial for the murder of Kelly Guidry on Jan. 23, 2021. The trial was marked by increased security at the St. Landry Parish Courthouse. Pitre stated it was the first joint murder trial in St. Landry Parish in more than 25 years. The jury deliberated for under two hours to render a verdict, he stated.

Make your dog a better leash-walker

Walking a dog on a leash is required by law in many towns and cities. Leashing a dog prevents the animal from trespassing on neighbor’s property and keeps it from jumping on people or other animals.

Native American culture lesson at St. Edmund

Brittany Comeaux’s fourth grade students at St. Edmund Elementary have been learning about Native American Culture. They have just finished a lesson on totem poles and how each tribe had their own totem pole.
