Breaux Bridge – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at 12 noon, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Howard “Black” Blanchard, 76, who passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Wednesday and continue on Thursday at 8 a.m. until time of service.
A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Ariel Ruiz and Alex Blanchard. Gift bearers will be Emily Ruiz and Lydia Blanchard.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Howard J. Blanchard, better known as “Black” or “Pop,” was born to the late Abel and Edna Guidry Blanchard in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. He was a member of the Parks Council Knights of Columbus No. 4927. Black enjoyed to BBQ and make cracklins. He always helped others and loved his family and grandchildren. Black will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sons, Karl Blanchard and wife Laura, and Keith Blanchard and wife Lisa; daughter, Kimberly Ruiz and husband Gabriel; brothers, Whitney Blanchard and wife Faye, and Carrol Blanchard; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abel and Edna Guidry Blanchard; brothers, Abel “Jim,” Lee Roy “T-Neg,” Leland Blanchard and Harris “Chawee” Guidry.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Matthew, Jacob, JoJo, Mason, Anthony, Joe and Dominic.
