Maxine Trahan pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from her second arrest and charges of stealing money from an elderly Duson woman.
Trahan is the former spokesperson for the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
It is the second not guilty plea she has levied regarding taking money.
Trahan, 57, filed a written plea of not guilty to charges of theft over $40,000 and exploitation of the infirmed per court records. She is accused of stealing more than $46,000 from the Duson woman, who unwittingly signed away her bank accounts and property assets for Trahan’s benefit, including her bail for charges of stealing money seized during criminal investigations. In that case, Trahan is accused of pocketing more than $200,000 meant for a special account operated by the 15th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Regarding those charges, Trahan did enter a not guilty plea but also admitted to state auditors that she did take the money in its report from the incident released earlier this year.
The state attorney general’s office is prosecuting both cases.
