An Opelousas woman said it was rape that caused her to kill a man, but it was discovered that she beat a man to death claiming he chattered too much, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said in a news release.
Melissa Ann Credeur, 49, told detectives on Monday she was raped by her Uncle John Ray Gautreaux while she was sleeping at residence in the 100 block of Boudreaux Road, the report stted.
Credeur said Gautreaux fell asleep on top of her and she was trying to wake him up but he was not breathing, Guidroz stated.
Credeur said she was able to get him off of her and she started beating him. he stated.
Deputies found Gautreaux’s body in a fetal position with bruising on his upper body.
Detectives also discovered key evidence discrediting Credeur’s statement, Guidroz stated.
A rape test at a hospital showed Credeur was not rapped, Guidroz stated.
“Credeur was advised of her Miranda Rights and gave an admission that she bludgeoned Gautreaux to death with a metal electric fan, a flashlight, pencils, a paint brush, and her fist. Credeur advised she became very agitated due to Gautreaux constant chattering which lead to her brutally attacking him. Credeur said after Johnny became unresponsive she exited the residence and contacted 911 emergency services,” Guidroz stated.
Credeur, of the 7600 block of I-49 service Road, Opelousas, was then taken to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office for processing.
Credeur is charged with second-degree murder. Bail was set at $150,000.
