LSU Eunice standouts Mima Doucet and Madison Monson have been named first-team All-Americans for NJCAA Division II by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The infielders were two of the thirty-two student athletes from 17 different institutions to garner the All-American accolades.
“I can’t think of two more deserved players for the award than Mima and Madison,” LSU Eunice head coach Andy Lee said. “They were so important to our success and put in so much work both on and off the field.”
Doucet and Monson's honors are now the 12th and 13th First-Team awards by the NFCA in LSUE history.
The program now has 18 total First-Team All-American nominations since 2011.
Doucet had one of the most successful offensive years in LSU Eunice history. The sophomore third baseman led the team and nation in doubles with 29, breaking the LSUE single-season record set by fellow Notre Dame alum Taylor Simon in 2013.
The SLU commit led the team in batting average (.455), runs (79), hits (100) and stolen bases (39). Her 100 hits are the third most in single-season program history and her runs scored are also third-most.
“Mima’s numbers really pop at you when you realize she was the lead-off batter for the majority of the season,” Lee said. “She set the table for her teammates and came through in the clutch with big time hits so many times throughout the year.”
Monson was LSUE's most consistent power presence, belting 19 home runs.
That mark was good for best among the team, fourth most in NJCAA Division II and tied for third most at LSUE in a season season.
The freshman from Walker also led the team in RBIs (65), triples (3) and slugging percentage (.751).
“I had a feeling in the preseason that Madison could produce for us in her first year, but not at this level,” Lee added. “She’s a testament to what hard work and drive can do if you put in the time.”
Iowa Central Community College's Alexis Egan was named the New Balance Golden Shoe recipient, while Kirkwood's Monika Bevans was selected the Diamond Sports/NFCA Catcher of the Year.
Kirkwood Community College led the way with five All-America selections, four on the first team. Des Moines Area Community College, who took home third at the NJCAA DII tournament, had four student-athletes recognized, while national champion Jones County Junior College and national runner-up Phoenix College each collected three All-Americans.
LSUE joined Jones County, Northeast Mississippi and Itawamba as Region 23 representatives on the NFCA All-American list.
The four schools received eight total nominations.
