Chataignier murder victim’s son opposes killer’s bid for parole

The son of a murder victim spoke out in response to a recent decision that was handed down by the Louisiana 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals.
Glynn Lavergne’s mother Bernice was murdered in 1992 in her store in Chataignier. The suspect arrested for the crime was then 15-year-old Russell Ross Rubin.
Rubin was subsequently convicted in 1996 after his first conviction in 1994 was reversed by the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. Following both convictions, he was sentenced to serve life in prison at hard labor without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.

Judge debate turns into one-woman event in Lafayette

Originally scheduled to be a debate turned into a interview forum for one of the three candidates for the open seat on the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals.
Susan Theall used her spotlight Tuesday afternoon, stating several times that she has the experience needed to serve on the court of appeals.
The election is March 25.
Theall answered questions from an eight-person panel during the forum, co-sponsored by the Acadiana Press Club, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) as well as the state’s chapter of SPJ.

Early voting Saturday, Monday to March 25

Early voting for the March 25 Municipal Primary Election will continue Monday through Friday, at registrar of voters offices.

Forum for appellate court candidates is Tuesday at LSUE

LSU Eunice’s Student Government Association will host a forum for the candidates in the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals Judge’s race at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium of the Health Technology Building on the LSU Eunice campus.
Vanessa Waguespack Anseman and Susan Theall have agreed to attend the forum. Candyce Perret could not attend due to a previously scheduled engagement.
The LSUE SGA has invited KLAF TV’s Adam Hooper to moderate the forum, and members of the Louisiana Bar Association have been invited to submit questions for the event.

Early voting for the March 25 Muncipal Primary Election will be held Saturday and Monday through March 18, at registrar of voters offices.
