COVID-19 batters Acadian Baptist Center

There was reason for celebration at the Acadian Baptist Center where a new worship center was completed in May, but then coronavirus pandemic hit.
James Newsom, center director, describes it as the “best of worlds and the worst of worlds.”
In April 2019, there was ground breaking event for the new worship center with hopes it would take the pressure off crowded conditions at the center that usually is filled by campers all summer.
“Attendance had been great until the pandemic,” Newsom said. “We had over 4,000 kids come to camp last summer, which was a record.”

Acadian Baptist Center about to build new worship center

Acadian Baptist Center is on the verge of breaking ground on a new 1,000-seat worship center to include state-of-the-art sound, stage and lighting, according to James Newsom, director.
Newsom spoke Wednesday to the Eunice Kiwanis Club about the development in Richard.
About $2.3 million in gifts and pledges are in place for the worship center that is expected to cost $2.6 million to $3 million, he said.
Evidently, the support is diverse.
One 19-year-old pledged $1,000 to be paid in $25 monthly installments, he said.

Seniors camp with a mission

The Acadian Baptist Center, near Richard, has served as host for Campers on Mission for the past 25 years. Each year, normally in October, the Acadian Baptist Center grounds has many volunteers from all parts of Louisiana pull up in RVs and campers and stay for one week to work.
Campers on Mission (COM) is a national fellowship of Christian campers who share their faith while they camp. Membership is open to Christian campers of all denominations and requires no membership fees, only a willingness to join other campers in fellowship and service.
