The LSU AgCenter has scheduled a series of meetings for AgCenter experts to inform rice farmers about the latest research findings.
“These meetings are a good opportunity for farmers to learn from our studies what they can do to make their operations more efficient,” said Don Groth, resident coordinator of the AgCenter H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station.
Presentations will include controlling insect pests, weeds and diseases, Groth said. Fertilizer recommendations and an economic outlook will be included in the presentations.
The first meeting, the southwest Louisiana rice field day, was held Wednesday south of Iowa at the Powell Farm Partners farm, located at the corner of McCown and David roads.
Other field days will be held as follows:
— Friday, the Evangeline Parish rice field day at the Bieber Farm located a mile west of Mamou on Bieber Road, starting at 8:30 a.m.
— June 11, the Vermilion Parish rice field day at the Lounsberry Farm east of Lake Arthur on La. 14, starting at 4 p.m. followed by supper at the Klondike Fire Station.
— June 12, the Acadia Parish rice field day at the AgCenter Rice Research Station South Farm starting at 8:30 a.m.
— June 26, at the H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station starting at 7:15 a.m.
— July 18, the northeast rice field day will be held at the Jason Waller farm near Mer Rouge in Morehouse Parish.
A St. Landry Parish rice field day will be held in July on a date and location yet to be determined.
