Twenty-three law enforcement officers, who are on a ride from Dallas to Baton Rouge, are to arrive in Eunice about 3 p.m. today for an overnight stay at LSUE.
The bicyclists, which included three East Baton Rouge deputies, three Baton Rouge Police officers and 17 officers from Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, are to arrive at the Eunice City Lake.
The riders started on July 7 after a ceremony marking the one-year anniversary of an ambush in Dallas that left five officers dead. That shooting was followed by a shooting on July 17, 2016, in Baton Rouge that left three officers dead.
The riders will leave LSUE at about 7 a.m. for their trip to Baton Rouge where a ceremony is planned to honor the fallen officers on the anniversary of the shooting a year ago.
After arriving at the City Lake, the riders will travel east on U.S. 190 to 2nd Street, to Park Avenue, to Viola to Maple and then to LSUE Drive.
The riders expected to travel south on 2nd Street at from 3:30 to 4 p.m.
A fire truck is to fly an American flag at the entrance to LSUE.
On Friday, the route from LSUE will be to Maple to Viola, to Park, to CC Duson and to U.S. 190 East.
The organizer of the ride is the Texas Brotherhood Ride, which held its first ride in 2014 to honor 19 officers who died in the line of duty in 2013 in Texas.
The Texas Brotherhood website states this year’s ride is about 500 miles long and will collect donations for the families of the eight officers who were killed in the Baton Rouge and Dallas ambushes.
