NJCAA competes in sectional play

SURREY, British Columbia – The NJCAA National All-Star team fell 2-0 to No. 10 Mexico by a score of 2-0.
The final game of pool play saw a dominant Mexico pitching effort as the All-Stars struck out 15 times while posting only four hits with Ashley Morris, Rebecca Skains, Kelly Bird, and Maddie Hansen each collecting one.
Team Mexico opened the scoring in the first with a RBI double to take a 1-0 lead that remained until the sixth as Reagan Mergle threw for the NJCAA team.
Mergle took the tough luck loss going 5.2 innings allowing two earned runs on six hits and striking out one.
Melanie Murphy relieved Mergle to throw the final third of an inning, retiring the lone batter she faced.

Calahoo 8, NJCAA 6
Calahoo blasted a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Erins to an 8-6 win over NJCAA in the opening round of sectional play.
The All-Stars captured the lead in the first inning on a RBI single by Kelly Byrd.
The Erins answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, sparked by a three-run home run by Casey Huff.
NJCAA scored three runs in the second inning, begn when Cori McCrary singled, Morgan Frost doubled and Taylor Nearad cleared the bases with a triple.
Nearad then scored on a a single by Ashley Morris.
Calahoo tied the game in the bottom of the third before the All-Stars scored a run in the top of the fourth on a McCrary scored on a Nearad single.
Calahoo answered when Bresdan scored on a with a Walz single.
The Erins moved ahead in the bottom of the fifth when but NJCAA tied the game at 6-6 when Nearad doubled and scored on a hit by Skains.
Torrazzi earned the complete-game win as she allowed six runs on 15 hits, striking out six, and walked one.
Dusty Durham took the loss as she allowed three runs, five hits, striking out three.
Skains went 1-for-3 with a walk and a RBI.
Nearad went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI to lead the All-Stars.
Miller, Huff, and Walz each collected multiple hits for Calahoo Erin’s.
The NJCAA (4-4) was set to face No. 9 Chinese Tapei Friday.
Because Pakistan was unable to travel to Canada for the tournament. the NJCAA All-Star team will receive a forfeit win in its third sectional game.
Following the sectional round robin, the teams will be seeded into double elimination bracket play for the championship.
